Estimate spoken time with visible pauses
Script Timing Studio estimates speech from English or German word-like units. It uses the browser's word segmenter with a Unicode fallback and keeps the script in the tool page.
Clean the spoken copy first
Remove headings, stage directions and other text you will not speak. Numbers and hyphenated terms may count differently from their pronunciation. The calculation cannot infer those delivery choices.
Use a pace you can reproduce
- Read a short passage aloud and choose a realistic words-per-minute setting.
- Add a marker such as [pause: 2.5] for a deliberate 2.5-second pause. Markers are excluded from the word count.
- Use additional pauses only for time not already marked. The overall result adds them once; paragraph cues do not repeat that extra total.
Read the range as two scenarios
Speech time is counted units divided by pace, multiplied by 60, plus explicit pauses. The faster and slower pace comparisons are chosen scenarios, not a confidence interval. Music, editing and unmarked pauses remain outside the estimate.
Keep the limit in view
The tool accepts at most 100,000 characters, 200 paragraphs and two hours of combined explicit pauses. A timing estimate is neither subtitles nor a measured recording.
